The Ozone Layer

THE OZONE LAYER

Called ozone, or ozone layer, the area
HIGH1 relatively ozone. This layer, which extends
approximately 15 km to 40 km altitude,
meets 90% of ozone in the atmosphere absorbs
97% to 99% of high ultraviolet radiation
frequency.

The ozone layer was discovered in 1913 by physicists
French Charles Fabry and Henri Buisson. Properties
were examined in detail by the British meteorologist
G.M.B. Dobson, who developed a simple
spectrophotometer that could be used to measure ozone
Stratospheric from the ground. Between 1928
and 1958 Dobson established a worldwide network of stations
monitoring of ozone, which continue to operate in
today. Dobson Unit, a unit of measurement
the amount of ozone, was named in his honor.
